A new deal for the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association is good for its members and students alike.
That’s the word from local regional spokesperson Leanne Davidson.
94% of OECTA members voted in favour of the three year contract last week.
Davidson says they were able to secure funding to better support vulnerable students.
Davidson says the agreement includes improvements in health and safety as well as reporting violence in the classroom.
She adds concerns over large class sizes and mandatory E-learning were also addressed.
Davidson stresses even though it was cold, it was worthwhile for them to walk off the job for several days this past winter.
“If our teachers had not been willing to make that commitment and get out on the line, we would not have achieved what we did achieve in this deal, and we would still be sitting at mandatory E-learning and 28/1 class sizes.”
