Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu feels people are starting to get the message about COVID-19 physical distancing.
Speaking to Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro, Hajdu says studies have shown Canada’s activity has slowed down but reminds people not everyone they see out and about is doing it for fun.
“You have to understand that we might see someone out and about that has a very valid reason for doing so. So it’s very important that we balance this idea that we are reminding each other to abide by the physical distancing rules but also have some compassion for those who are going to work.”
The Thunder Bay-Superior North MP is thanking all of the front-line essential workers who continue to do their jobs during the pandemic.
Hajdu adds people have started altering how they go grocery shopping and limiting their daily trips.
“People are learning to get a couple of weeks groceries on their trip so they don’t have to go out every day and if that’s possible for them, that’s great. Just remember not everyone can afford two weeks of groceries, so you might see them out more.”
The federal and provincial governments are also getting praise for working so well together during the pandemic.
Hajdu says this isn’t a time for party alliances, stressing they are united because we are all in this together and we need each other to survive.
