Premier Doug Ford is once again stressing the importance of staying at home as the first long weekend of Spring arrives Friday.
Ford addressed concerns on Saturday of high numbers of individuals going to camp in the Kenora and Thunder Bay districts.
“I’ve been on this with Minister (Kenora-Rainy River MPP) Greg Rickford. Number one, we have to get the message out to the cottagers. Please do not go out to your cottage.”
Relating to Manitobans heading into our area during the pandemic, Ford stated “They can’t be coming into Kenora. As Minister Rickford said, we have a couple of beds in the hospital, ICU beds, and god forbid something ever happens to someone from Manitoba, we’re obviously going to take care of folks, but why put the strain on the health care system?”
Ford says it also puts unnecessary pressure on grocery stores to keep essential goods on the shelf.
“I’m pleading! I’m asking people! Just stay at home as much as you can. It’s unfair to these smaller towns who don’t have the capacity to handle it.”
Ford has stated anything and everything is on the table on further restrictions, if people continue to move around during the health crisis.
Government officials in Manitoba have been handing out COVID-19 information at the boundary with Ontario on the importance of 14 days self-isolation, even if it’s domestic travel.
