Former Dryden GM Ice Dogs goaltender Jacob Anthony is headed west to continue his hockey career.
Anthony is going to Castlegar to play for the Selkirk College Saints of the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League.
The Saints were fourth in their five team league with a 7-13 record this past season.
Head Coach Dave Hnatiuk says Jake is driven and hardworking, a trait that they place a great amount of focus on.
Anthony, a product of Grand Prairie, Alberta, finished second in the Superior International Junior Hockey League in wins and saves during the 2019-2020 campaign.
The 21-year-old won a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League championship with the Nipawin Hawks in 2017-2018 where he led the league during the season during the regular season in both goals-against-average (1.94) and save percentage (.929).
Anthony was acquired by the Ice Dogs in a trade from Estavan midway through the 2018-2019 campaign.
Anthony will study in the School of Business program with the ultimate goal of transferring to university to gain a degree in Sports Management.
In an interview on the Selkirk Saints website, Anthony says “I’d describe myself as a hard working, dedicated goaltender. With me you are going to see a goalie that battles and doesn’t give up on pucks, but also leads teammates by example with work ethic and dedication. I like to be vocal with my team on the ice and also like to play the puck to help relieve offensive pressure on my defence.”
