Municipal and provincial police now have the ability to issue serious fines for those not following COVID-19 self-isolation rules.
The government says police can now ask for the identity of someone who is charged under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
Anyone providing a fake ID can be fined $750-$1,000.
Not complying with emergency quarantine orders can result in prison time of one year or a fine of up to $100,000 for an individual, with fines of up to $10-million for a corporation.
