Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford believes we are headed to the closure of provincial borders to help stop the spread of the coronavirus
Rickford says he’s hopeful and believes an announcement on inter-provincial travel will be made by the Trudeau government in the next couple of days.
“We have to lock this down. Ontario and Quebec are experiencing dramatic increases in community born spread of COVID-19 and the only way to stop that is to stay in our homes, stay in our communities.”
Rickford says he wouldn’t be surprised if any travel ban is extended to people leaving their own region within a province or even cities.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP stresses most communities aren’t equipped to handle the pandemic beyond the people in their own catchment area.
Rickford stresses we have to have consistency across the country and that’s why he believes it’s a federal decision.
