The provincial government continues to work with aboriginal communities to get them the support they need to deal with COVID-19.
Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford says he’s been working closely with First Nations leadership.
“Particularly in the isolated and remote communities in Treaty #3. We’ve entered into transfer payment agreements. In the isolated/remote communities we are working hard to ensure that there is a supply chain of critical goods.”
Rickford notes he has been reaching out to the Grand Chief of Treaty #3.
“I spoke with Francis Kavanaugh a couple of times over the past week and we have moved to support them with resources to increase awareness in their communities and other program support as we mobilize and arm all of our communities.”
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP stresses providing critical support is key right now as most remote communities have shutdown to minimize people coming from the outside.
The recent relief fund for Ontario included $26-million in direct funds for First Nations.
