Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health is pleased with what grocery store chains are doing to keep their staff and customers safe.
Dr. David Williams says with many of the new social distancing practices, it’s just taking people time to get used to them.
“Practice the distancing, the two steps and away. Put your things on the counter, step back a bit, let the teller handle those materials and check them. Usually they are wearing gloves and then when they finish bagging and that, they tell you and you step forward, they step back. You do your payment. Usually electronic is better.”
Dr. Williams suggests if you wear protective gloves to the store, you should dispose of them properly to mitigate any risks of someone contracting the virus.
He notes “There’s a lot to be learned for all of us. This is a new way of doing life for the next while. And people I think are adapting. They are getting with it and I see it happening but it doesn’t mean everybody’s got it down pat yet.”
Most local stores have tape on the floor to promote social distancing and customers are being asked to bag their own purchases.
