Hydro One is applauding the Ontario government for moving quickly to offer relief to their customers.
A move to a fixed off-peak flat rate for the next 45 days is expected to result in 15% savings on a monthly hydro bill for customers.
Officials say while they are regulated to adhere to Time-of-Use pricing, they had already been working with the industry and government to offer customers relief.
President and CEO Mark Poweska says “With an unprecedented number of people staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we believe people should be focused on keeping their family safe and not on what time of day they should be doing laundry or wash dishes.”
Poweska says “We are here to help our customers through this.”
He says they will continue to advocate on behalf of their customers for greater choice, flexibility and relief.
Poweska adds no customer will be disconnected and their Pandemic Relief Fund will help people who are struggling during a challenging and uncertain time.
The Fund offers increased payment flexibility and financial assistance to customers experiencing financial hardship as a result of the coronavirus.
