Operations at the Domtar Mill in Dryden continue as staff develop a pandemic response plan to combat the COVID-19 virus.
General Manager Marie Cyr says they are working closely with local union leadership and employees to implement the plan.
Cyr adds the mill is also working closely with suppliers to ensure the required preventative measures are effectively in place.
She says “We must continue to work together and be proactive to take the necessary steps that will keep us, our families and our community safe and healthy. We encourage all community members to do the same.”
A few examples of precautions being taken at the mill include:
-Cleaning and sanitizing worksites, including equipment and break rooms
-Modifying work practices to maintain physical distancing
-Modifying shift turnover practices
-Establishing work-from-home when possible
-Implementing new daily meeting formats such as conference calls
-Avoiding contact with shippers delivering raw material to their facilities
Visitor access to the mill in Dryden is restricted and contractors are being screened.
Domestic and international business travel has been suspended.
