The Fraser Institute is out with its latest ranking of Ontario elementary schools based on province-wide reading, writing and math tests.
Report Author Peter Cowley says this is a valuable tool for parents when choosing a school but also whether their child’s school is improving or falling behind.
The three Dryden schools were all above the 5 out of 10 threshold; New Prospect at 7.1, Open Roads at 7 and St. Joseph’s Catholic at 5.6.
In Red Lake, the Golden Learning Centre was in the top 230 in all of Ontario with an 8.2 out of 10 score.
Red Lake Madsen Public School received a 6.8 score.
In Sioux Lookout, Sacred Heart was 4.9 out of 10 and Sioux Mountain was 2.4.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has long dismissed the report card, noting it doesn’t take into account the challenges facing the education system in northwestern Ontario.
