Some workers are getting a pay raise because of the time they are putting in during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Workers at Safeway are each getting an extra $50 a week on their pay cheques.
Those who work 20 hours or more a week will get an additional $2 an hour bump on every hour they work over 20.
The pay increase is retroactive to March 8th and will be reassessed at the end of April.
Company President Michael Medline says he’s incredibly proud of their employees and their efforts to keep stores safe and shelves restocked.
Employees with Loblaws Companies, including Shoppers, are also getting more money.
The company is awarding them with a 15%, retroactive to March 8th.
In a statement, President Galen Weston says their supermarkets and pharmacies are doing well and they wanted to make sure a significant portion of the benefit would be go directly to their frontline workers.
