One of the most popular players in the history of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs is making a splash south of the border.
Kyle Pouncy has made the jump to the Wichita Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League.
The Thunder have been active since 1992 and are currently the ECHL affiliate to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors and the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.
Pouncy played two seasons with the Ice Dogs from 2014-2016 where he was instantly thrust into the role of Assistant Captain.
The two-way defenceman suited up in 111 games with Dryden where he amassed 21 goals, 63 assists, 84 points and only 14 penalty minutes.
In the playoffs, he played 24 games and recorded 4 goals, 14 assists, 18 points and 2 penalty minutes.
From Dryden, Pouncy ventured to the United States where he played four seasons with the Northland College Lumberjacks in NCAA Division 3.
Pouncy finished his outstanding time with the Lumberjacks with 100 games under his belt.
He produced 17 goals, 40 assists, 57 points and 20 penalty minutes.
Pouncy was signed by Wichita and quickly suited up for four games with the Thunder.
He notched his first ECHL point with an assist before the cancellation of the season due to COVID-19.
Mike Neirno is the Social Media Director for the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and he had the opportunity to speak with Kyle Pouncy on his hockey career and his time living in Dryden.
