Red Lake Miners forward Shaye Sommerfeld has been named Best Defensive Forward in the Superior International Junior Hockey League for 2019-2020.
The 20-year-old Miners captain helped his side defensively in allowing the fewest goals-against in the league at 176.
Red Lake also had the second best penalty kill behind Dryden GM at 83.6%.
Sommerfeld also chipped in offensively with 20 tallies, including a shorthanded goal, and 20 assists.
Stratton Pickett of the Miners won the award last year.
Sommerfeld beat out Bryce Johnson of the Thief River Falls Norskies and Thunder Bay’s Jacob Brown.
