Canadians may have to keep social distancing for some time in light of the growing concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the situation is evolving every day and they will let the nation know when it’s safe to return to normal behaviours.
“We are going to continue to follow the best recommendations of experts. We’ve heard anything from weeks to months. We know this is a difficult and extraordinary time in which Canadians are taking difficult and extraordinary measures and we will continue to do that until Canadians are safe.”
Trudeau says they will also keep all options on the table including possibly closing provincial borders.
The Prime Minister has also shed some light on the timeline for when the Canada/U.S. border will officially be closed.
“Fine tuning of the agreement between Canada and the United States. I think it’s almost there. My understanding is that the measures will probably come into place in the night between Friday and Saturday. So in about a day-and-a-half.”
Trudeau says his government has texted information to Canadians abroad on how they can get support to get home and he’s also been speaking with airlines.
He adds his Indigenous Affairs Minister will be soon be providing further information to First Nations about the help available to their remote communities.
