Westjet has announced its suspending all international flights, including to the United States, starting on March 23rd.
After that the airline will be operating rescue and repatriation flights in partnership with the Canadian government.
President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Sims says all international and transborder flights will be halted for a 30 day period to control the spread of COVID-19.
Sims says they are also suspending the sale of outbound international tickets for 30 days until March 22nd.
That takes effect Wednesday at 11:59 mountain time.
Sims adds they are in the process of lowering prices on their remaining seats into Canada to assist those looking to return home on short notice.
Westjet has also announced it’s reducing their domestic schedule by about 50% for a 30 day period.
