The Municipality of Sioux Lookout has implemented several measures to combat to COVID-19 pandemic.
Council has decided to close both the Sioux Mountain and the Biidaaban Children’s Centres until April 6th.
The Memorial Arena and Rec Centre is now off-limits until April 5th when another decision by staff will be made of the short term fate of the facility.
The Sioux Lookout Public Library Board has decided to close the library for at least three weeks, and possibly longer.
All Municipal Boards, Commissions and Committees’ meetings are suspended until April 30th and all municipal staff out-of-travel for meetings, training and other non-essential work has been put on hold.
Municipal staff stress this is a time for calm and thoughtfulness and the main concern at this time is protecting the health of the public.
Mayor Doug Lawrence says they will be taken future direction from the appropriate authorities.
Lawrence adds they are closely monitoring the situation and making precautionary decisions in the communities best interests.
He notes critical services will continue to carried out and the cleaning and disinfection of all facilities remains a top priority.
