Dryden’s Kevin Raine has started a new initiative in Belfast, Northern Ireland to help grow the game of hockey.
Raine, who currently plays for the EIHL’s Belfast Giants, recently launched Personal Best Hockey recently to get more people on the ice and playing the game.
Raine is currently in his third season with the Giants, and says that in his years in Belfast he’s seen a love and passion for hockey that’s unlike anything he’s ever seen before.
Personal Best Hockey is a program that will run camps and on-ice sessions for those looking to both learn the game and to further develop their skills.
In addition to instruction, Raine says that Personal Best Hockey will provide all the equipment necessary to those who want to get out on the ice.
When it comes to the inspiration behind Personal Best, he says that he remembers the impact the Dryden Ice Dogs had on him as a kid and wants to make the same impact on the next generation of hockey players coming up behind him.
Raine notes it will be tough to grow the game in somewhere like Belfast where hockey isn’t commonly played comes with its challenges, such as a lack of places to play, but that he’s excited to bring new skaters to the ice.
I am so excited to finally announce that I have launched “Personal Best Hockey” as I look to grow the game of ice hockey right here in Northern Ireland! Check out https://t.co/5aC8Kk3Ffy for more! #GrowTheGame #PersonalBestHockey pic.twitter.com/eBSdYxv8kV
