Blockades at key economic points in the country has the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce watching with interest.
Spokesperson Charla Robinson indicates those blockades, by supporters of Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs in B.C., don’t appear to be having an impact locally just yet.
Robinson says area businesses are indicating they are starting to brace of potential impacts if rail line disruptions continue.
She notes big companies like Resolute Forest Products have been trying to deal with the situation since much of their larger shipments come by rail.
“They’ve been trying to switch to truck traffic to be able to get the products that they need here and to be able to get their products out.”
Robinson notes any blockades at the Port of Vancouver will have an impact on goods which come to Thunder Bay from Asia.
