A busy schedule for the new Director of Education at the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board as she tours regional schools.
Sherri-Lynne Pharand was in Dryden yesterday at New Prospect School to pay a visit to the Kindergarten French Immersion class.
Pharand says following the recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is always a priority for the board.
She also says the French Immersion programming helps students become bilingual once they leave Grade 12 which is beneficial in a more globalized world.
Pharand adds that it is amazing how fast the children in French Immersion learn the language as the kids in the Kindergarten class already know so many words and phrases.
She also says that she is happy to see that staff in the school board are very focused on kids and how to ensure they are successful.
She has been to the schools in the Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake, but still has a few schools she will be making her way to in the near future.
