A lot of local support from Dryden for the Special Olympics as the Law Enforcement Torch Run came through the city.
The torch was lit earlier this afternoon as the run went from the Dryden Police Service detachment to Dryden High School.

The run had many participants from near and far including local police officers as well as law enforcement officials from across the country.
It was also the final leg of the Torch run as the games begin in Thunder Bay tomorrow.

Once the torch arrived at the high school the runners were greeted by a large crowd in the gym at Dryden High School.
Multiple speakers took to the stage to speak a few words including Principal Richard Hodgkinson and Dryden Mayor Greg Wilson.
The assembly also cheered on the two local athletes who have qualified for the Winter Games: Michelle Schroeder and Scott Pichlyk
Devin Drury from the RCMP in Thompson says the event is all about highlighting great athletes that don’t always get to be in the spotlight.
Drury also says the amount of support for the Torch Run in Dryden has been great, especially by local law enforcement.
He also says he is very excited for the opening of the games in Thunder Bay tomorrow.

Dryden Police Constable Denise Szachury says they are hoping to build on their momentum from last year.
Szachury also wishes good luck for the two athletes that qualified.
