A southern Ontario man has been arrested in relation to a lengthy fraud investigation involving an Atikokan resident.
Provincial Police were alerted in June about an individual who was advised they had won a substantial amount of money from a lottery but they had to pay the taxes to get the money.
Police say after money had exchanged hands, the victim was asked for more money, and received nothing in return.
That’s when the victim realized it was a scam.
With assistance from officials at the Aurora Detachment, OPP in Atikokan say 58-year-old Shafqat Khan of Richmond Hill was charged with trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
