Our region is well represented at the Provincial 5 Pin Bowling Championship being held in Timmins.
The two day event starts on Friday and some 90 competitors will compete in a tournament solely based on beating their own league average.
Dryden’s Tim Gadd is one of many leading the local contingent.
He provides an update from the 2020 Cambrian Insurance POA Classic Tournament:
“The tournament is an annual Pins Over Average tournament organized by the Northern Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association where POA teams are vying for a spot at the 2020 Inter-Provincial Canadian 5 Pin Bowling National Championship being held in Winnipeg, MB. Two teams will earn the right to represent Northern Ontario on the national stage and will attempt to continue the streak of medaling at nationals for the province as Northern Ontario has seen a Bronze Medal and Gold Medal in the last two years respectively! Last year, the team from Thunder Bay captured gold in Saskatoon, SK and the year prior the team from Sunset Country (Dryden, Balmertown, Kenora and Fort Frances) won national Gold in Charlottetown, PEI!
The 2020 Sunset Country contingent will be led by contingent manager Toni Benning (Fort Frances). Filling the contingent representing our area is:
POA Team 1: Jesse Sidor (Balmertown), Robert Keeper (Balmertown), Shannon Davis (Kenora), Danielle Bois (Fort Frances) and coach Terry Delaronde (Dryden)
POA Team 2: Scooter Bowman (Balmertown), Mike Pavey (Kenora), Kayla Gadd (Dryden), June McNally (Balmertown) and coach Tim Gadd (Dryden)
Darryl Rollins (Dryden), Michelle Riley (Balmertown) and Sherry McCoy (Balmertown) will compete in the Executive divisions.
Charlotte Hazelwood, Terri-Lynn Dale, Jenn Rollins and Catherine Dashnay will compete in the Hi-Low Doubles divisons.
