A survey conducted for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation is showing strong public support for teachers in their dispute with the government.
Area residents were polled in the middle of last month.
Regional union spokesperson Kent Kowalski says the public understands what’s at stake.
“Polling shows that Ontarians are interested in what’s happening in education. They understand the concepts and that’s why the government is having such a hard time getting any sort of traction or support for their cause.”
Kowalski adds “People get it. A vast majority of the community get it, get what the government is doing and they don’t like it.”
He states the survey shows a large number disagree with increases to class sizes as well as mandatory e-learning, two key issues in the dispute with the government.
The survey also found 65% of respondents supported maintaining full-day kindergarten at the elementary level.
