Students need more ways to learn in order to succeed.
That’s the mantra of the new Director of Education for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
Sherri-Lynne Pharand has presented a report on experiential learning to trustees.
She says the community connection part is really important for helping kids explore potential different career pathways while they are still in school.
Pharand believes students can do better and succeed with additional hands-on learning opportunities.
She stresses it’s their responsibility to ensure kids are prepared, they have options and they can think about different opportunities for their future.
Pharand comes from the Lakehead District School Board and says they saw an increase in the past three years in graduation rates, once schools started to offer specialty programming.
