The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario continues its fight to maintain full-day kindergarten.
The issue is one of the stumbling blocks in the on-going labour dispute with the province.
Regional union spokesperson Monica Armour likes the model of teacher and early childhood educator in the classroom.
“The ECE’s bring the social-emotional part of the child and the teacher brings the knowledge and curriculum part of the combination. But they have to work together and they do work together.”
Education Minister Stephen Lecce has stated the program will remain unchanged but the union is looking for a written commitment in the new contract.
