Dryden’s mayor wants his voice heard.
Greg Wilson attended pre-budget consultations for both the province and the federal government this month.
He says both levels of government are running huge deficits and that has to stop, stressing the bottom line is trying to save money.
“And I’ve got ideas about what that may look like but I just need to get somebody, like the Minister of Finance, to say ‘let’s take a look at this and how might that work'”.
Wilson is one of the few municipal politicians in this region to speak out against the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund, saying he does not like a flat grant from the province.
He instead is pushing for a formula-based fund for communities.
Wilson also suggested that politicians should get out of the way, and let the accountants to the work.
