The Mayor of Dryden is hoping to take a stand against Northwestern Health Unit municipal levy increases.
Greg Wilson plans to bring forward a comprehensive resolution tonight (Monday) at the Committee of the Whole Meeting.
Wilson claims health unit revenues have increased above annual inflation since 2015, although officials have advised the Municipality that they require a total increase of 46% over 2019 rates in order to cover 2021 and future annual costs.
The resolution calls on the City to maintain the status quo and not shell out more money.
It also directs the health unit to find other sources of funding or identify cost saving measures.
Council will also be asked to strengthen its economic development team.
A request will come forward to re-establish an Economic Diversification Advisory Committee.
The advisory group would help lead initiatives that would strengthen and diversify the local economy, both short and long term.
The Committee would assist the Economic Development Office in identifying and pursuing realistic opportunities for the creation of new and sustainable employment in the community.
The open meeting starts at 7:00pm at City Hall.
