It will be a history making moment for Sioux Lookout’s Jimmy Roy at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg tonight. (Friday)
The popular hockey player will see his #21 raised to the rafters by the Manitoba Moose in front of family and friends.
Roy will become only the second Moose player to have his jersey retired.
Mike Keane is the other member in the elite class.
Roy was drafted #254 overall by the Dallas Stars in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
He spent nine seasons with the Moose from 1997 to 2006 and owns the franchise records for games played and penalty minutes.
Roy won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award during the 2002-2003 year for the American Hockey League player who best represents the spirit of Yanick Dupre with his involvement in the community.
He ended up playing pro hockey in Germany for five years after leaving Winnipeg.
Roy is now working as the Director of Player Development with the NHL’s Jets.
