The second and final day of the the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s showcase in Spooner, Wisconsin is now officially in the books.
The first game Wednesday was between the Thunder Bay North Stars and Thief River Falls Norskies, which the North Stars would take by a score of 5-2. Cody Bruchkowski once again came through for Thunder Bay with two goals, bringing his showcase total to five.
Next up was a contest between the Fort Frances Lakers and Red Lake Miners, which the Lakers would claim 4-2. Kiernan Bailey, Peyton Hughes, Tyler Malpass and Matthew Dyck scored for Fort Frances, while Ryan Howe had both Red Lake goals. Sean Gula was the only former U-18 ‘AAA’ Kenora Thistle in the lineup, and did not record a point.
The final game of the showcase was a 7-3 win for the host Wisconsin Lumberjacks over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs. The Lumberjacks had seven different goal scorers, and almost evenly split the scoring over all three periods. Goals from Dryden were from Justin Pitari, Josh Weber and Malcolm Huemmert.
Regular SIJHL play resumes Thursday night as the Miners will stay in Spooner to take on the Lumberjacks.
