With the Trudeau government making the new NAFTA deal a top priority the deputy prime minister is urging quick passage.
Second reading debate on the bill has started in the House of Commons.
Chrystia Freeland believes it is in the national interest to get the free trade agreement through parliament.
“I also appreciate the value to the Canadian economy in getting this deal finalized, ratified and putting the uncertainty behind us.”
Freeland adds Canadians believes this is a really good deal for our country.
However, she is quick to point out she doesn’t believe that the debate in Parliament is “pointless”, stressing the deal is not a take it or leave it proposition and will get the scrutiny it deserves.
The United States and Mexico have both approved the tri-lateral agreement.
