It was a great weekend of bowling for members of Dryden Bowler’s Association as they competed in the Northern Ontario 5 Pin Bowler’s Association Open Zone round for a chance to move on to the Provincial Championships.
Bowler’s from Dryden, Fort Frances and Red Lake competed in a 20 game roll off in at Plaza Lanes in Fort Frances over the weekend for a chance to earn a spot on the men’s, ladies or mixed teams. The top 6 men make up the men’s team, top 6 for the ladies and the mixed team consists of 7-9th place from the men and women.
Dryden had an excellent showing. Chris Gadd, Scott Miner, Calvin Murray, Andrew Misner and Robert Keeper earned their spot on the men’s team with Jeff Watts from Fort Frances completing the team. Jeff, Chris and Calvin will also bowl in the singles competition as they finished in the top 3 respectively.
The men will be coached by Tim Gadd from Dryden.
Qualifying in first place and earning her spot not only on the ladies team but in singles competition as well was Jackie Miner. Also qualifying from Dryden is Kailee Ernewein. The rest of the team will consist of Jessica Scott from Kenora, Toni Benning from Fort Frances, Alexis Knudsen from Red Lakeand Marla Fedeniuk from Fort Frances.
The ladies will be coaches by Terry Delaronde from Dryden.
Finally, the Mixed team will have 3 bowlers from Dryden representing the zone at the provincial championships. Darryl Rollins and Justin Gallaway qualified 8th and 9th places respectively for the men, and Kayla Gadd qualified 9th in the ladies division. Rounding out the team is Jordan Sokoliuk from Fort Frances, Michelle Riley from Red Lake and Kathy Bois from Fort Frances.
The mixed team will be coached by Norm Sanders from Dryden.
Altogether, 19 men and 12 ladies competed in the tournament. The qualifiers will now move on to represent Sunset Country in the Provincial Championships which will be held in Thunder Bay April 8-11th. They will be competing against 5 other zones across the Norther Ontario District including Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay and Thunder Bay.
