‘Join the Journey to Green’
That’s the theme of the 2020 Kenora District Municipal Association Conference scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Sioux Lookout.
KDMA President Kevin Kahoot says climate change and the environment aren’t the only issues on the table.
Kahoot says they will also be discussing social concerns, housing, policing costs, provincial funding, mining and forestry.
He believes this gathering will be the most important one they have ever had.
“With the riding being split the last election. There are some issues that we are finding between members of the Kiiwetinoong riding and the Kenora riding as far as representation. So it gives us a chance to talk some of those through.”
The Ear Falls Mayor stresses the conference gives new mayors and councillors an opportunity to network with other community leaders.
Kahoot says it’s also critical in lobbying efforts with the province and the federal government.
“I think you are seeing more of a time now where KDMA is taking that advocation in their own hands now and really banding together and starting to talk to the province (and feds) of issues affecting the Kenora district.”
