It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Douglas Smith on Monday, January 20th, 2020 at Concordia Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with MS.
Brian is predeceased by his parents Lee Carlyle and Elvira Marie Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Maureen, sons Lee (Patricia), Dwayne (Julia Majer ). Sisters, Sharon Neufeld (Martin), Sheila Imrie, and Lynn Brickman (Ralph Wragg). Mother in law, Charlotte Whyte, sister in law Dale Currie, and brother in law Jim Whyte. Uncles Harvey Smith and Carman Morton and Aunt Helen Cornelius, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Brian was born July 7, 1941 in Jellicoe, Thunder Bay District, Ontario. He began working at the Dryden Paper Company at age 18 and later moved on to Dryden Chemical Plant where he eventually became supervisor over the 35 years that he worked there.
Brian and Maureen met as teenagers and were married June 15th, 1962. They lived in Dryden Ontario until moving to Winnipeg in 2001.
Brian loved his fishing and hunting and was an avid curler and baseball player in his younger years. He also enjoyed being creative in his wood working shop. Brian was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dryden Ontario.
In keeping with Brian’s wishes, cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will be held at a later date.
