Ontario’s Education Minister continues to defend the provincial stance on the labour dispute with teachers.
Stephen Lecce is responding to the escalating job action launched by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario.
Lecce says union leaders are once again breaking their promise to parents by proceeding with province-wide rotating strikes, noting the consequences are real, as families are forced to find child care on short notice.
He says “Repeated escalation at the expense of our students, to advance higher compensation, higher wages, and even more generous benefits, is unacceptable for parents and students in our province.”
Lecce adds students should be in class and the government stands ready to negotiate to reach a deal Ontario students deserve.
