The MP for Thunder Bay-Rainy River is insisting he supports a ban on military-style assault rifles, but some of his constituents have concerns.
With the issue on the government’s front-burner as parliament resumes today, Liberal Marcus Powlowski said that is why he forwarded their worries in a letter to the public safety minister. He believes it is his duty to pass on constituent concerns whether he agrees with them or not.
His position on the issue was challenged after he sent that letter.
Powlowski has heard gun owners believe the existing rules are strict enough and no new ones are needed. Another question, according to the MP, surrounds what constitutes a military assault rifle since it is a broad term. He confesses, “I don’t know what that means, it has yet to come out.”
