Domtar is supporting the Dryden Food Bank with a $10,000 donation.
The money supports the new refrigerated van.
Dianne Loewen is the Public Affairs Coordinator for Domtar in Dryden and she says they were happy to help out.
“We have a very active community outreach program and we do invite applications from various community members and the Food Bank had applied to us for funding with their campaign and we were more than excited to see it.
Loewen says the vehicle is an integral part of their service to clients.
She says the van will be able to offer more variety, better selection and some healthier choices for their clients.
Food Bank Manager Al Huckabay says Domtar is all about the community and he’s thrilled the company jumped on board.
The organization purchased the refrigerated van in November.
“It’s benefited us. We’ve already seen an increase in the amount of dairy product, amount of vegetable product and meat product that’s coming from retail stores.”
Huckabay says the new vehicle was needed after retailers put in measures for the safe transfer of food.
He notes more than $30,000 has been raised to date.
Huckabay says they are halfway towards completing their fundraising goal.
