Confederation College will now be making all its decisions based on an Indigenous perspective.
It’s called “The Diversity, Equity and Indigenous Lens”.
Spokesperson S. Brenda Small, says the new approach will cover all policy, practice and teaching methods.
Small says if a decision is made without including an aboriginal point of view, it needs more work.
She says the direction the school is taking is relevant and meaningful and believes other public organizations might consider doing.
As an Indigenous person working at the college for 25 years, Small says she’s excited about the new protocol.
“I think that we are showing some leadership and accountability and I think that’s always a good thing.”
Smith had a hand in developing the new approach.
