The president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation says there is strong public support for teachers and the job action they’re taking.
In a video message to his members. Harvey Bischof says they’ve been tracking public opinion through surveys conducted by a reputable polling firm.
“Those surveys tell us that a significant majority of Ontarians support our efforts to defend publicly funded education against the Ford government.”
Bischof says the polling shows while very few Ontarians believe the government on education issues, a substantial majority does trust educators.
He adds the public is not buying the Education Minister’s claims the dispute is all about compensation.
Bischof says they held a conference call Tuesday night to discuss next steps, but doesn’t indicate what those will be.
He notes success of future actions will require continued resolve and solidarity by teachers.
