The provincial government is making an investment to keep local seniors active, healthy, safe, independent, and socially connected to their own communities.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford has been touring the riding this week handing out money to Seniors Active Living Centres.
Rickford says these facilities are critical in ensuring seniors have a place for fellowship, sharing time with one another and staying active.
“We’ve got to pay careful attention to the growing number of seniors that we have in our communities and the importance of these facilities in terms of the programs the offer, the services that they offer and the condition that the buildings are in.”
The Dryden Go-Getters received $52,727 while the Happy Go Lucky Seniors Club in Vermilion Bay welcomed $15,000.
Rickford stated “This one in Dryden is remarkable but some of the other ones across the riding are in need of upgrades. We are going to be there to upgrade them. We have done it in the past and we are going to continue to do it in the future.”
He stresses seniors are the people who built our communities to what they are today.
In total, Ontario is investing $14.1-million to support more than 300 Seniors Active Living Centre programs in communities across the province.
