The City of Dryden isn’t doing enough to address social issues facing the community.
That’s the belief of Councillor Shayne MacKinnon, citing recent statistics released by the Kenora District Services Board noting that Dryden has over 70 homeless people but has one of the highest poverty rates in the region.
MacKinnon says he’s upset more money hasn’t been allocated to their Community Well-Being Plan for such issues.
Norm Bush suggests it’s not a municipal responsibility but instead a responsibility of the Kenora District Services Board and a variety of provincial ministries.
Bush also says the City doesn’t have a department to handle such issues and the KDSB is much better prepared to tackle such issues.
The comments were made during debate on the 2020 municipal budget.
