The Ford government has made a move to make the adult correctional system in our region safer.
The province his hiring 14 new correctional officer graduates.
A majority of the officers come from communities in the North, were all trained in the North and will be assigned to the Thunder Bay Jail and the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.
The graduates recently completed a comprehensive eight-week program focusing on mental health training, Indigenous cultural training and inmate management techniques.
Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says the government will continue to work directly with all frontline staff to ensure they have the resources needed to keep themselves safe, while supporting the rehabilitation of those in the correctional system.
