Forests Ontario has announced the continuation of its 50 Million Tree Program.
Rob Keen is the Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit charity and he says the program is better and more accessible than ever.
Keen says the new, expanded criteria opens the program to more land and property owners, meaning more trees in the ground.
He calls it a win-win for landowners, who save on tree planting costs, and for the environment.
Under the revamped program, property owners with room to plant a minimum of 500 tress can apply.
The organization says more than 5,000 landowners have planted trees, yielding 16,000 hectares of new forest and sequestering over 22,000 tonnes of carbon annually.
