Ontario’s Education Minister and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation continue to be at an impasse.
The union is slated to hold a one day walk-out tomorrow (Wednesday) at nine school boards across the province, including the Rainy River District School Board.
Stephen Lecce says it’s time for the OSSTF to call off this needless strike.
“The union leaders should agree to private mediation. They should stay at the table and most importantly they should work with us in good faith to get a deal that keeps our kids in class.”
Lecce says the job action shows that if they don’t get their demands, including a $1.5-billion increase in compensation, they are prepared to walk out again.
The OSSTF says it will only cancel the scheduled walkout if the government doesn’t insist on a class size increase, addresses the e-learning agenda and removes the cap on public sector salaries.
Lecce notes the taxpayer and the government has been reasonable at the bargaining table.
