Ontario’s Auditor General is providing a scathing review of the Ford government’s climate change plan.
Bonnie Lysyk says the provincial goals are not supported by sound evidence.
But Energy Minister Greg Rickford says they have had extensive conversations with the Auditor when making their plan.
“We followed her recommendations at every turn, particularly with respect to the energy and particularly with the environment. I don’t see that as a criticism. I see it as a recommendation on how we can do better.”
Rickford adds “In my discussions with the Auditor General, she’s completely satisfied with the actions that we’ve taken and the way that we have taken them.”
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP says a perfect example is the Watay Power Grid in the far north, which will be taking commutes off of expensive and dirty diesel power.
Rickford stresses they have a green energy system that they can be proud and the government hopes to build on that.
