A challenge has been issued to municipalities and economic investors to help grow Ontario’s manufacturing base.
The province has started its Job Site Challenge, in which companies or investors nominate large areas of land that could be used for auto plants or other manufacturing firms.
The government notes this has been used in a number of American states with great success.
Land nominated must be between 500 and 1,500 acres and be zoned, or able to be zoned.
Minister of Economic Development Vic Fedeli points out one of the biggest obstacles faced by auto makers is finding large enough property to develop.
