The union representing catholic teachers in Ontario is seeking a Ministry of Labour conciliator in its contract talks with the province and school boards.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association says they met 30 times and have made significant progress with the group bargaining on behalf of school boards, but stress government negotiators are continuing to insist on cuts.
OECTA President Liz Stuart calls the government side as being in complete chaos and accuses it of going out of its way to derail the negotiating process.
Stuart says the province has even fired its own negotiators following their meetings last week.
The union says it’s appalled by how the government has approached talks.
Stuart notes they stand by ready to get back to the bargaining table just as soon as the government gets its act together.
