The Sioux Lookout connection helped propel the Dryden GM Ice Dogs to a big win in Lac Seul First Nation Friday night.
Ben Forbes and Cortez Favot opened the scoring and the Ice Dogs didn’t look back in a 6-1 victory over Red Lake.
Dylan DiTomaso scored his first SIJHL goal, while Curtis Magas, Evan Pakkala, Justin Pitari also found the back of the net.
Amraj Gill recorded four assists.
Shaye Sommerfeld scored on the power-play for the Miners lone goal.
Dryden GM outshot the Miners 32-26, with Jacob Anthony picking up the win.
The game was organized by Red Lake and Lac Seul First Nation Events Centre Manager Jeremy Capay to bring Junior hockey to the community.
Players and staff arrived in the community early to participate in school visits and meet-and-greets.
This was the second SIJHL game to be played at the Events Centre.
In other action, the Thief River Norskies erased deficits of 5-1 and 6-2 to stun the league leading Thunder Bay North Stars 7-6 in overtime.
Cochenour’s Cody Bruchkowski of the North Stars had 3-goals and 1-assists in the loss.
With the win, Thief River Falls moved ahead of Red Lake in the standings and now sit second.
