Provincial Police across the region are reporting a sneaky, yet clever, scam in the area.
Police say scammers are now using local OPP numbers as a call display number to make people in the public believe that the police are calling them.
As the scammers pretend to be the OPP, they try to get personal information for criminal purposes.
Provincial Police are reminding the public that they do not call and ask for personal information relating to banking information, your social insurance number and they do not collect money on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency.
Police say if you do receive such a call, you are urged to hang up the phone immediately.
OPP also warn that everyone is at risk of falling victim to these scams, but elderly people are among the most vulnerable.
