The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is putting out the call for help to find the person responsible for shooting and abandoning a bull and a cow moose east of Sioux Lookout.
On October 22nd, Conservation Officers responded to a tip from a hunter that a cow moose carcass was found at the edge of a forest cutover off Botsford Road, which is accessed by Highway 642.
An investigation determined the badly decomposed animal was shot one to two weeks prior.
Officers were unable to determine if any of the meat had been salvaged before it was left behind, but they did recover a rifle bullet from the carcass and found a rifle casing on a nearby roadway.
Three days later another tip was received of a bull moose carcass found in a similar location off of Star Creek Road, which is accessed by Highway 642.
Again, the Ministry believes the animal was shot one to two weeks prior and officials stress the moose was shot 100-metres from the nearby roadway and it would have been easy for a hunter to locate.
It was badly decomposed and scavenged by wildlife, so officer weren’t able to determine if any of the meat had been salvaged before it was abandoned.
A bullet was recovered from the carcass.
